Application time
Keep us in your prayers it's time to start applying for transfer for Matt he'll be finishing up his associates in arts in may prayfully, and his applications are due in the next month or so to either get into the nursing program and UNC if we are really blessed or into the biology department at NCCU. Either way will be ok but the nursing program would be preferred as it would get him working in his field sooner!
I'll try and go take some pictures of Matt playing ice hockey soon, he says he's starting to get pretty good, no one knows that he's just a beginner so he's happy :)

Fall 2011
Well it's October already. This year is flying by. Unfortunately school is too crazy for us to go apple or pumpkin picking :( two of my favorite things. Hopefully next year after my class work is done we might have more time to enjoy the nice little things in life. We did however make it to our first NC state game which was a lot of fun other then the myriad of undergrads in the student section. The whole stadium was a slew of red it was great to see the team spirit and to hang out with some of my grad student friends.
Also Matt got his Christmas gifts early from everyone so that we could finish getting his hockey equipment. So now he has been playing ice hockey for about 2 months or so and is having a lot of fun.
Other news we had a tornado over the summer down here and then most recently a huricaine which turned out much more mild then it was suppose to be but we were all stocked up here are the pictures- to show all the snacks we were prepared with.

Love is like owning a dog poem
Someone I know posted this poem and I liked it so I figured I'd repost and share it! Hope you all like it.
Love is like owning a Dog

On the other hand, love gives you a sense of security:
when you are walking down the street late at night
you have a leash on love
ain't no one gonna mess with you.
Because crooks and muggers think love is unpredictable.
Who knows what love could do on it's own defense?
On cold winter nights, love is warm
It lies between you and lives and breathes
and makes funny noises.
Love wakes you up all hours of the night with it's needs.
It needs to be fed so it will grow and stay healthy.
Love doesn't like being left alone for too long.
But come home and love is always happy to see you.
It may break a few things in it's passion for life,
but you can never be mad at love for too long.
Is love good all the time? No! No!
Love can be bad. Bad love bad. very bad love.
Love makes messes
and leaves you little surprises here and there.
Love needs a lot of cleaning up after.
Sometimes you just want to get love fixed.
Sometimes you want to roll up a piece of newspaper
and swat love on the nose.
Not so much to cause love pain,
but just to let love know to never do that again.
Sometimes love just wants to go for a long walk.
Because love loves exercise.
It runs you around the block and leaves you panting.
It pulls you in several different directions at once,
or winds you around and around
until you are wound up and can't move.
But love makes you meet people wherever you go.
People who have nothing in common but love
stop and talk to each other on the street.
Throw things away, and love will bring them back
again, and again, and again.
But most of all, love needs love, and lots of it.

School Fall 2011
Well we are back and ready for action in school. I've already been back to school for 2 wks now and have my first test already this week crazy! Matt has also been going for about a week now. I"m so excited this is my last year of classes and can't wait to be done with my big exam next summer. Matt is busy finishing up this associates and will be applying for nursing programs this sesmeter for next summer. He should finish the associates by spring yay! One step closer to the real world for us.
We had a nice weekend- we had a couple over to hang out over the weekend and we played board games for the first time in a long time- it was a nice change. There really should be a movement to bring those back mainstream again- they are so much more interactive and bonding then tv or video games.
Also I'm finally getting the hang of playing piano for church, I've been helping them since January and I feel I'm finally getting the swing of it.
It's going to be a busy semester we are hoping to keep up with it! Hopefully we have a chance to visit some family for the holidays.

2011 summer closing
If you can't tell ---- we love our dogs :) As is evident by the numerous pictures. But I'm grateful for Dad Herman's fancy camera giving us some art quality pictures of them! I'm also so glad people snapped some pictures of us at the most recent wedding since we haven't gotten to do much this year to take pictures of-studying kinda makes a boring picture.
Well it's about time to start our fall semester again sigh. Matt is in his last week of summer classes and is all signed up for his fall classes. He's on schedule to finish his AA by the end of spring and we will be completing his nursing applications this october and crossing our fingers that he gets in for summer admissions.
I'm excited to have my classes start so I can get them over with since this is my last year of classes before I take my comp exam next summer and then can stop taking classes and focus solely on my research. That being said this will be my toughest year of classes so the Herman bed and breakfast has closed for the season and will be unlikely to be seeing people much until at least Christmas, Thanksgiving will be dependent on exam schedules.

Wedding trips
So we have been invited to a few good friends wedding this year and unfortunetly missed a few already but we were able to make it up to Nate's and Andrea's wedding this past weekend in Villanova. It was a full catholic mass service with a lovely reception afterwards. We were able to get in touch with some old friends whom we had not seen since our wedding, so we had a blast. We daytripped it for the most part- stopping in VA for the night so we had less of a drive the next day.

Mid year update
Soooo apparently I only posted pictures and didn't blog about our Boston trip- crazy me. So we ended our semester really well- then invited the in laws down to visit us for the wkend after finals ended. So we hung out with Matt's mom and dad- they got to meet and play with the puppy and Barb and I went and got facials for the first time. We had a relaxing wkend together, and a nice way to unwind after a crazy semester.
The next wkend we boarded the pups and flew up to Boston as my girlfriend Kristy was graduating from veterinary school. We had plans to hang out in Boston for the day but apparently they were having a terrorist drill in Boston that day so we went and hung out in and around their house- they live by a lake so we were able to walk around that.
Sunday we had breakfast with her father and Jim's family then headed down to the graduation where a few funny commencement speeches were given- I was impressed that they were funny enough to keep us awake and even entertained slightly. Then we went to dinner with Kristys mom's family and then headed back toward the city to fly home. It was a nice weekend and we are both very happy and proud for her as she is now a Docta :)
June was busy so we didn't go anywhere Matt started Summer classes and I had to give a work presentation so we fervently worked hard but my presentation went well - I'm making decent progress on my projects for finishing up my first year. Matt got A's in both of his Summer semester I classes so yay! Lets keep that going!
So far in July we were able to sneak away and visit Matt's family and see Kristin and Missy whom he hadn't seen since Christmas time. So we spent and afternoon and evening with the family then on Monday we went up to my Grandmothers 4th of July picnic for a few hours and got to see some of my extended family. It was just a quick trip we weren't gone more then 48 hrs before we had to be back home for matt to start his summer II classes and for me to get back to work. I'm working fast and hard in the lab trying to get through some good research before my classes begin again in only 4 wks :'(
We probably will be out of touch for most of the fall semester as we both have very difficult semesters so we will be offline for the most part until we pass and survive those classes. Hopefully classes will get easier after next semester.
Also for Uncle George Matt wants you to know that he learned in his german class that geshbul means outsider, and is used primarily in southern Germany, Bulgaria- and that in that region they don not like foreigners at all.
In the next couple weeks we are trying to finish up everything before we dive into fall semester in August. A college friend is visiting, my parents are visiting and we are going to a wedding and I am helping with VBS it will be quite a busy month trying to live life.

End of year one!
Sooo sorry for the long delay- I noticed it was january with the last post but due to the intensity of my school work over the last semester it wasn't surprising. What a fast first year! This past semester Matt took 5 classes and got all A's I'm so proud. I also completed pharmacology and biochemical toxicology with great grades. It was an arduous semester and we didn't travel anywhere. We started classes early january after returning from Christmas traveling. Valentines day we did Red lobster yum! And a movie at the movie theater- it had been at least 6 mo. since we had gone to the movies so that was nice. Then for my birthday we went to olive garden and then met friends out for a bit.
For Matt's birthday we went to a hurricanes game. We also went to two other hurricanes games this season. They have a great fan program here, they offer student and military deals which made tickets affordable for a nice date.
Easter we were unable to travel this year do to the positioning of easter and my final. So we spent Easter at our little church here in Cary and I played piano and then made ham, green beans, mashed potatoes and chocolate chip cheese cake. It was delicious!
So far in May we got a 2nd dog, finished our finals and watched my girlfriend Kristy graduate from veterinary school and become a Doctor.

Update
Wow so apparently I haven't updated since september???? Crazy... that's how busy school is I suppose. Matt and I both did very well in our first semester of classes. Matt got 4 A's and a B and I got A's in my classes so we are very happy. Matt continues to work at the Rizzo Conference center at night bartending, and that seems to be going well.
I picked my lab. I rotated in 3 labs last semester, a lung toxicology, a carcinogenesis and then a DNA damage lab. After a very tough choice I decided to go with the DNA damage lab as I felt it would be the most challenging as well as it had a very good personal dynamic. You can follow us on twitter! I'm very busy between school work and lab work and will be attending a week long conference in DC in March. We shall see how Matt can hold up the fort while I am away.
We went to visit Matt's family in Virginia for thanksgiving and stayed for 3 or 4 days and were able to catch up with the family as well as have the family meet Cali. We then went to visit my family in New York for Christmas and stayed for 5 days and left before the big snowstorm- stopping by my Grandfather on the way up and my other Grandparents on the way back down for an hr or so a piece. Everyone loved Cali and exclaimed what a great dog she is.
Cali has grown a ton. She is up to 45 lbs and I think fully grown, she is currently 9 months old, about to be 10 months. She graduated from begginner dog class in november and was the star of her class. We took a break for the holidays and 2 wks ago we just started intermediate. She is a little wild as she is very excited to see she gets to go back to class to play with the other dogs but is still the star of her class and even has to do her exercises off lease while the other dogs stay on their leashes still. Indy and Cali continue to rough house and terrorize each other but are very sad when they are without each other. Cali met my mothers and sisters cat over Christmas and matt's familys cat over thanksgiving and she was sad the kitties wouldn't play with her, so she was quite happy to return home to her kitty who would play chase.
I also have been doing a lot of chinese food cooking these days and it is quite delicious. I made hot and sour soup with pork, beef and broccoli, pork chow mein and shanghai noodles with pork. I also have made a lot of fish lately and have made parmesian crusted tilapia and have done beer battered fish and shrimp, shrimp scampi linguine, and when Matt's family came to visit after Christmas I made eggplant parmesian crisps for the girls- my first vegetarian dish! I have some pictures of some of these that I will have to upload at another time. And I made an amazing turkey minestrone which is to die for.
I also have started playing piano for church to help their current pianist to not have to play every week. We have started our second semester and are as busy as ever and exams are about to start back up again so I'm sure we will return to being crazy again soon.
Other big news my girlfriend Colleen and her husband had their first baby, Noah this month so we are now an aunt and uncle :)
