So apparently I am really far behind in the blogging world.... months in fact. Alright well... backtracking.....
The wedding was beautiful- of course something always goes awry with a wedding so of course Matt, myself and my best friend Kristy all somehow end up with poison ivy even though we were all in different states. Luckily mine and Matt's cleared enough that you couldn't see it- and Kristy's.... we found a dress to match Kathys to hide hers. And then we ran behind. Which if you know me at all is not something that I enjoy. But the weather was absolutely perfect and Kristy did a great job on my hair, and Kristin and Missy with my makeup and Kathy with the cake. And the 80 degree sunny weather was perfectly lovely and enjoyable. And we are so thankful and happy that we were able to see so many of our family and friends were able to make it out to share that day with us.
Antietam Battlefield was the perfect spot for the wedding. We wanted something very small and intimate because too often people forget that weddings are really about the bride and groom and that intimate love- and the fact that we got to enjoy that beautiful morning- being married by my cousin with just our immediate family was definetly everything we hoped for and more. Like my father, I have always had a love of bridges, and Matthew and I both always loved Antietam from our childhoods so when we found we could get married there at the bridge we had no second thoughts about where to have it.
Then the reception- I wanted it to be close to home and close to my heart. So we celebrated right outside my hometown where the majority of my family is so that all those who wouldn't have been able to make it if we had it in another state were able to come and celebrate with us. We love how the relaxed atmosphere allowed everyone to have a lot of fun. We enjoy going against the grain a little bit and I feel this open relaxed style fit our personalitys the best for sure.
The wedding day itself made for a very long day- up by 6 am and then not getting to the hotel until after 10 pm was exhausting but we really enjoyed being able to hang out with family and friends who we rarely get to see so it was definetly worth it.
After the wedding we stayed with our family and a few friends and opened our gifts so we could figure out where to put them while we were away for the week and then dropped of my car at my grandparents and went out to dinner with our families. We spent the night in Frederick before travelling to our Honeymoon destination.
The first couple of days we spent in Virginia beach and did a little shopping since we couldn't spend much time on the beach with all the rain we got- but luckily it held out until after the wedding. Half way through the honeymoon we learn that Matt has to leave to report to duty down in NC. So we had to get up at 1 am in the morning Thursday so that he could hit the road report in for a few hours and then drive back. By the time he got back I had been sitting in the lobby for a few hours as we had to check out of the hotel at 11, and he came back exhausted and feverish. So I drove us to our next destination of Williamsburg where we then had to tend to his fever. Luckily Friday he felt a little better and I was still able to see Williamsburg and Jamestown before we had to head back to Maryland and then go our separate ways to resume our work.
But we are thankful for being able to have a full week together and get to travel and that our wedding really turned out to be everything we could have hoped it to be.
